Fatehpuri Masjid in Delhi Delhi, the capital city of India is a storehouse of historical attractions. I was overwhelmed by the architectural beauty of the historical monuments located at every nook and corner of the city. Each and every Delhi monuments bears the rich history of the bygone era, of which, Fatehpuri Masjid is worth a mention. This mosque is one of the finest specimens of Mughal Architecture in the country’s capital city. It is one of the oldest mosques in Delhi and though it is not so popular like some other historical monuments of the city, Fatehpuri Masjid has its own unique beauty.
Fatehpuri Masjid was built by one of the wives of Shah Jahan, Fatehpuri Begum, in the year 1650. It is situated in Chandni Chowk, one of the popular regions of Old Delhi. This historical monument is built up of red sandstone and it is surmounted by a single dome. I was really fascinated with the beauty of this spectacular Mughal architecture, specially the seven arched openings of the prayer hall. I came to know that there are both double and single storied apartments inside the complex of Fatehpuri Masjid, some of which used to be the school for poor students.
